Shin-Osaka Station in Yodogawa-ku, northern Osaka, is Osaka's connecting station for the Shinkansen bullet train.

Shin-Osaka Station is the eastern terminus for Tokaido shinkansen trains from Tokyo, Nagoya, Kyoto and the western terminus for Sanyo bullet trains from Okayama, Hiroshima, and Fukuoka.

Shin-Osaka Station is on the Midosuji Line of the Osaka subway system with trains to Shinsaibashi, Namba, and Tennoji to the south.

Shin-Kaisoku (新快速) express trains run from Shin-Osaka Station to Kyoto Station via Ibaraki and Tatatsuki in around 35 minutes.

The area surrounding Shin-Osaka Station is more of a business center than an entertainment area but has a number of conveniently located hotels such as the Shin-Osaka Washington Hotel Plaza, the Chisun Hotel and the Hotel Shin-Osaka.

There is a tourist office in the station (Tel: 06 6305 3311) which can supply local maps and help with finding accommodation.



The Kansai Airport Limited Express (Haruka) runs from Kyoto Station via Shin-Osaka, Nishikujo and Tennoji to Kansai International Airport (KIX). The average journey time is 75 minutes from Kyoto Station to KIX, with trains every 30 minutes. Japan Rail Pass holders ride the Haruka service free of charge. A non-reserved seat from Shin-Osaka to KIX presently costs 2,470 yen (2009).

Other services from Shin-Osaka include the Kuroshio, Super Kuroshio and Ocean Arrow services to Shirahama and Shingu in Wakayama Prefecture, the Hanwa Line to Wakayama city and the Raicho and Thunderbird trains to Toyama.

The Shinano Express from Shin-Osaka connects with Gifu, Nagoya and Nagano and the Hida Express with Takayama.

There are also local connecting trains to Kusatsu and Maibara, Kobe (Sannomiya), Himeji, Itami, Takarazuka and Sanda.



Services from Shin-Osaka connect with Fukuchiyama, Amanohashidate and Kinosaki Onsen as well as Chizu, Tottori and Kurayoshi.

Two overnight trains depart from Shin-Osaka Station: the Nihonkai connects with Aomori via Kyoto, Fukui, Kanazawa, Toyama, Tsuruoka, Akita and other stations and the Twilight Express stopping at Kyoto, Tsuruga, Fukui, Kanazawa, Takaoka, Toyama, Naoetsu, Nakaoka and Niitsu on Honshu and Toya, Higashi-Muroran, Noboribetsu, Tomakomai, Minami-Chitose and Sapporo on Hokkaido.
