Yen Exchange Rates
The Yen-US Dollar exchange rate is a key global economic indicator and subject to fluctuation with the recent trend towards a gradually weakening dollar. The dollar has dropped in value over a decade from roughly 100 yen to the dollar to around 80 yen to the dollar, though recently in 2013 the Yen has begun to weaken against the dollar due to quantitative easing by the Bank of Japan. Now in 2014, the dollar is around 100 Japanese yen.
Japanese bank notes are in 10,000 yen, 5,000 yen, 2,000 yen (something of a rarity) and 1,000 yen denominations. Coins are 500 yen, 100 yen, 50 yen, 10 yen, 5 yen and 1 yen.
