Photos | Images of Japan: On bridge of Shinsenen Temple, Kyoto, Japan
Shinsen-en Temple, in western Kyoto near Nijo-jo, is famous for this graceful, arching, vermillion bridge over its temple pond. The area covered by the temple grounds was originally part of the Heiankyo Palace, which burnt down in 1177. Permission to build a temple here was given by the Tokugawa shogunate. The gardens still reflect the Chinese influence of the original design.
