Heian Shrine in the Okazaki district of central Kyoto is one of the city's largest and most popular shrines and draws large crowds for its Setsubun Festival in February and Shichi-go-san in November. The Japanese gardens at the rear of Heian Shrine are well-known for their lovely cherry blossoms in spring.
