Yasukuni Shrine enshrines the souls of around 2.5 million Japanese soldiers killed in Japan's wars since the end of the Edo Period as well as some of the major figures of the Meiji Restoration of 1868. Yasukuni Shrine is a source of tension with Japan's neighbors China and Korea as 14 Class A War Criminals, as decided by the Tokyo War Crimes Tribunal after World War II, are also enshrined here.
