Photos | Images of Japan: Ema - Postcards to the Gods, Arashiyama, Kyoto
Ema are wooden votive plaques found at Japanese shrines. Beseechers of divine favor write their wishes on the boards and hang them on a special frame. Common themes written on ema are wishes for success in school and university entrance exams, finding a wife or husband, good health and safe delivery of a child.
