The Liberal Democratic Party or LDP (自民党) are a conservative, nationalist center-right party that were in power in Japan for nearly all of the second half of the 20th century. The Liberal Democratic Party lost power in the 2009 election to the DPJ. The LDP oversaw Japan's economic boom from the 1960s to the 1980s and its subsequent period of stagnation from the 1990s onwards.
