Deer grazing beside wall of Kofukuji Temple, Nara

Deer are a frequent sight around the temples in Nara, especially those near Nara Park. Kofukuji Temple (興福寺) is the HQ of the Hosso sect and referred to as one of the "Seven Great Temples of Nara." The temple at its present location dates from 710. Kofukuji is most famous for its pagoda, the second tallest in Japan, erected in 1426.
