Popularity of Sport In Japan
Sport is hugely popular in Japan at both live venues and on TV. Baseball ranks as the most popular spectator sport in Japan, closely followed by J-League soccer and to a lesser extent professional sumo.
Following the success of the Japanese women's soccer team, nicknamed the Nadeshiko, at the 2011 World Cup, women's soccer attracts large TV audiences along with volleyball, marathons and, of course, the Olympics.
