Nishi Shinjuku Photos, Tokyo: Slideshow
Shinjuku is the commercial and administrative heart of Tokyo. It is one of Tokyo's most cosmopolitan areas - perhaps without as many English speakers on the streets as Roppongi or Shibuya, but whatever language you use in Shinjuku, the message somehow makes it through!
Nishi Shinjuku (West Shinjuku) is an architectural playground. The Sompo Building, its lines somehow suggestive of the ambition of the pyramids, the Mitsui Building with its black, hieraglyphic granity shine, the brave new golden mirrored Island Tower, the majestic meccano Tokyo city hall 'Tocho', and many more, make for a plush, tasteful landscape, somewhat overawing in its scale.
Enjoy this slideshow of Shinjuku's main business/administrative quarter, Nishi Shinjuku. The pictures have been taken over the space of approximately three years, most of them from Nakano ward, just across the Kanda River separating the two wards. See the myriad faces of West Shinjuku at all times of the day, and in all weathers and seasons.
