As car ferries go, it is a fairly small ship, with seating areas with the obligatory TV as well as tatami areas to stretch out and nap, but there is no cafe or restaurant, only vending machines.
The Takedatsu terminal is in a remote spot served by taxis or infrequent local buses that run west to Kakaji and on to Bungotakada and the JR station at Usa. Other buses run around the east coast of the peninsula to Kunisaki Town and Oita Airport.
