Japan Travel: Getting to the Oki Islands
Oki Islands Access 隠岐のアクセス
The Oki Islands Archipelago is a group of four inhabited islands and 180 uninhabited islands 40-80 kilometers north of the coast of Shimane Prefecture.
These include the largest island, Dogo (Okinoshima Town) and three smaller islands: Chiburijima Island (Chibu Village), Nishinoshima Island (Nishinoshima Town) and Nakanoshima Island (Ama Town), which together are known as Dozen.
The Oki Islands can be reached by air or ferry from mainland Japan.
The flights take approximately 50 minutes from Itami Airport and about 30 minutes from Izumo Airport.

Getting Around on the Oki Islands
Car hire is available on all the islands and is the easiest way to get around. Details are available from the Tourist Information Offices on each island.
Electric powered bicycles or standard bicycles can also be rented on Nishinoshima, Nakanoshima and Dogo. There are currently no bicycles on Chiburijima Island, but these can be rented on Nishinoshima or Nakanoshima and taken by inter-island ferry (extra charge) to Chiburijima.
There are infrequent bus services on the islands (except for Chiburijima which has no buses) radiating out from the main port towns. Check the bus schedules at the local tourist office. There are few services at the weekend. Foldable bicycles can be hired on Dogo which can be taken on the local buses.
