Yoshidaya is located in the Arifuku hot spring district, said to have been visited by the famous wandering bard of Japan, Kakinomoto-no-Hitomaro.
The hot spring here has been active for at least the past 1,300 years. Today, the area still retains its old country charm.
Stroll up the flagstoned paths and receive a warm welcome from the stone Ohbaka Jizo (a 'jizo' being a bodhisattva who looks over children, travellers and the underworld) carved by the renowned sculptor Mitsuaki Sora that presides over the entrance of our ryokan, along with a stone lantern by the same artist.
Unwind and relax in the soothing embrace of our very own natural hot spring.
The ryokan has 10 Japanese style rooms complete with futons and tatami mats.
Guests can opt for traditional Japanese breakfast and dinner or stay without meals. It is also possible to visit Yoshidaya onsen to take the waters without staying the night or even come for a day-time stay.
Rates for accommodation and meals are extremely reasonable and bookings by fax in English can be made on the Yoshidaya website
The grounds of Yoshidaya onsen contain its own natural hot water spring which provides the refreshing soft water for the clean and stylishly furnished baths.
Arifuku is a pleasant place to stroll to take in the atmosphere of an historic Japanese onsen resort. With car or cycle hire it is easy to visit two other of Shimane Prefecture's hot spring spas at nearby Asahi and Mimata as well as take in the spectacular coast and the renovated Edo-period silver mining village of Iwami Ginzan.
