Osaka Area Guide: USJ ユニバーサル・スタジオ・ジャパン
Universal Studios Japan (USJ) in Osaka opened in 2001 and is similar to Universal Orlando Resort in the USA and it contains many of the same rides.
USJ was the first theme park under the Universal Studios franchise to open in Asia and is popular with Japanese visitors as well as tourists from China, Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.
USJ currently has eight sections: Amity Village, Hollywood, Jurassic Park, New York, San Francisco, Waterworld, Universal Wonderland and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
The various rollercoaster rides at USJ are based on such films as Back to the Future, Jaws, Jurassic Park, Spiderman, Terminator 2 plus a Hollywood Dream ride.
Universal Wonderland is your chance to interact with famous characters such as Hello Kitty, Snoopy and the cast from Sesame Street.
There are a number of shows on throughout the day each lasting about 30 minutes. These include Terminator 2:3D, Waterworld, Sesame Street, Shrek and Backdraft. After dark enjoy a nighttime parade and illuminations show featuring characters from such movies as Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Arabian Nights and Cinderella.
Each section has its own restaurants matched to fit the theme and there's lots of choice: Chinese, New York pizza, French, 1950's American and, of course, English beer and fish and chips in the Harry Potter section.
