Class Observation, Kyoto.
A brutally hot early June Sunday.
For the sake of parents unable to attend the weekday class observations, elementary schools around Japan throw their doors open once a semester on a Sunday.
The schools are very flexible and open about it. You are given a schedule for the day, and asked to come when you can.
I sat in on my daughter's second grade arts and crafts second period class, and watched the teacher lead the class in blowing up with a straw a surgical glove inserted in a milk carton. The children were quite adept, and there is no doubt a connection between this activity and building Toyotas.
I love the teacher's lilting Kyoto accent.
