Bell in Myoshinji Temple

The Call to Evening Prayers at Myoshinji Temple Kyoto 妙心寺

At 6 pm the gong rings out in Kyoto's Myoshinji Temple, a huge Zen complex in the west of the city.

The bell in Myoshinji Temple rings in slow intervals, perhaps once every twenty or twenty-five seconds. The Buddhist priests who ring the bell are heard but not seen, as they pull the chain within a wooden bell tower.
